Outreach

The Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) connects the academic community with relevant DHS programs and opportunities. This page provides information on current DHS HQ academic-focused initiatives and upcoming engagements with academia.

In FY 2021, OAE launched the “Come to U.S. DHS” diversity initiative to create Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with individual universities and academic institutions. Specifically, OAE is pursuing partnerships to fill noticeable gaps in federal employee representation across faiths, races, genders, ages, and geographical locations. The diversity MOUs, applicable DHS-wide, establish a mutually beneficial relationship between DHS HQ and the specific academic institution. The partnership creates a direct platform to engage with universities on key DHS initiatives, provide internship opportunities, externships for academic credit, temporary assignments, academic programs, and pathways to permanent federal hire.
