The Intelligence, Security, and Information Sharing Section works with Department components and offices to ensure that civil rights and civil liberties protections are incorporated into the Department's information and physical security programs, information sharing activities, and intelligence-related programs and products.

Areas of Focus

• Intelligence Issues: Since 2009, we have reviewed Department Intelligence & Analysis products and work with Department Intelligence Community leadership and personnel to ensure that civil rights and civil liberties are addressed in the Department's intelligence community programs and products.
• Information Security: We review Department policies, procedures and programs that relate to the protection of information in both paper and electronic form, including Department programs that focus on the protection of information systems and networks that are connected to the internet.
• Physical Security: We review Department physical security policies and procedures that may implicate civil rights and civil liberties.
• Information Sharing: We monitor Department information sharing efforts by working with the DHS Information Sharing and Coordination Council and the Department Information Sharing Governance Board to ensure that civil rights and civil liberties protections are incorporated into the Department's information sharing agreements and programs.
• The Department and state and local law enforcement and intelligence personnel: We provide subject matter expertise to CRCL's Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Institute in the development and implementation of various training programs, including training for Department and state and local law enforcement personnel.
