Human Trafficking Awareness Training

Human trafficking is a hidden crime, and the first step to combating it is to identify victims so they can be rescued and help bring their perpetrators to justice. The Blue Campaign has developed awareness and training materials to help increase awareness and educate on the indicators of human trafficking.

Readout of Secretary Napolitano’s Visit to Missouri

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today traveled to Joplin, Mo. where she joined Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, Joplin Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean, Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Deputy Administrator Rich Serino and Red Cross President Gail McGovern to participate in the 2nd Annual Day of Remembrance of the Joplin tornado. During the event, Secretary Napolitano presented the 2012 Rick Rescorla National Award for Resilience to Jane Cage, Chair of the Citizens Advisory Recovery Team (CART), and the citizens of Joplin, recognizing their contributions in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes in May 2011.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today met with Indian Minister of Home Affairs Sushil Kumar Shinde for the Second U.S.-India Homeland Security Dialogue to strengthen the global strategic partnership between the United States and India on issues ranging from cybersecurity and megacity policing, to counterterrorism and countering violent extremism.

DHS Announces Grant Guidance for Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 Preparedness Grants

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today announced the release of FY 2013 Funding Opportunity Announcements for eight U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) preparedness grant programs totaling over $1.5 billion to assist states, urban areas, tribal and territorial governments, non-profit agencies, and the private sector in strengthening our nation’s ability to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies in support of the National Preparedness Goal and the National Preparedness System.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today traveled to Drexel University to announce seven colleges and universities competitively selected to participate in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Campus Resilience Pilot Program (CR Pilot). DHS will work with the seven selected colleges and universities to draw on existing resources, collaborate with federal, state and local stakeholders and identify new innovative approaches to promote campus resilience—directly supporting the goals of the President’s Plan to Reduce Gun Violence, and making educational institutions safer and more prepared.
