The Department of Homeland Security participates in a number of events throughout the year. The Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) participate in events to reach out to the public and disseminate knowledge regarding new technologies that help homeland security officials better do their jobs to protect the homeland. The following events include participation from the Department Directorate for Science and Technology.

- NDIA Coast Guard Innovation Expo
- Intersective/Industry Training, Simulation, Education Conference (I/ITSEC)
Dates: November 2-6, 2009
Location: Sparks, Nev.
Event Overview: Highlighting renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies, the 2009 National SBIR/STTR Conference will bring together federal agencies — U.S. Department of Defense, Health and Human Services, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, Department of Education, Department of Transportation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Small Business Administration (SBA), Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Agriculture — as well as venture capital and angel investors, large companies, small businesses, lenders, researchers, university and federal laboratory representatives and other experts who provide assistance to or are interested in doing business with early-stage and advanced-stage ventures. NDIA Coast Guard Innovation Expo
Dates: November 17-19, 2009
Location: Virginia Beach, Va.
Event Overview: The 2009 Expo focuses on the Service’s commitment to creating a more responsive, flexible, and agile Coast Guard through the application of new technologies and comprehensive changes to our command and control structure, organizational makeup, and internal business processes. With this in mind, this event is designed to identify opportunities for private and public partners, as well as our internal workforce to offer effective solutions to emerging business challenges such as management of distributed workforces, social communication methods, and active collaboration tools. As a component agency of the Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard is one of numerous key customers for S&Ts investments. For more information about the event, visit NDIA.
Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, Education Conference (I/ITSEC)
Dates: November 30-December 3, 2009
Location: Orlando, Fla.
Event Overview: This event promotes cooperation among the Armed Services, Industry, Academia and various Government agencies in pursuit of improved training and education programs, identification of common training issues and development of multiservice programs. S&T will host a “ONR-Department of Homeland Security” display at the event which will feature the work of several Department of Homeland Security component agencies.
