Product Area: Personnel Inspection
The Transportation Security Laboratory's (TSL) Personnel Inspection Program is focused on detection of explosives and weapons at a fixed checkpoint. The checkpoint may be in an aviation, mass transit, or public venue. “Next generation” checkpoints require a systems approach that includes layered, adaptive security measures, with good detection of improvised explosive device (IED) and weapons, faster throughput, automated detection and alarm resolution. TSL’s Personnel Inspection team members focus on an integrated modular vision of a checkpoint that is part of a larger solution for all checkpoint or entrance venues in aviation, mass transit, special events, force and building protection.
This program concentrates on the development of advanced capabilities to detect explosives and concealed weapons, including small Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or home made explosives (HME) that could be detonated in passenger cabins, as well as weapons that could be used in the hostile takeover of mass transit. Program activities focus on developing passenger-screening systems that meet requirements for threat detection and efficiency and customer requirements for automation user friendliness, efficiency, and cost reduction. The checkpoint components and integrated solutions address the requirements of customers such as the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Department of State, and the Department of Defense.
