Integrated Common Analytical Viewer (iCAV)
The Integrated Common Analytical Viewer, or iCAV, is a secure, web-based, geospatial visualization suite of tools that integrates commercial and government-owned data and imagery from multiple sources. Using iCAV NextGen and DHS Earth, federal, state, and local homeland security partners can establish comprehensive situational and strategic awareness.
When the data layers and information feeds are overlaid with imagery, iCAV users are able to view the impact of threats, natural and man-made disasters, population centers that could be impacted, and the resources available to respond to and recover from an event.
The iCAV program was initiated as mandated by HSPD-7 to geospatially map, image, analyze, and sort the nation's critical infrastructure and key resources and is a critical component capability in assisting the Department and its mission partners to better prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from natural and man-made disasters.

iCAV NextGen
iCAV NextGen is a browser-based 2-D viewer that provides users with the following information from multiple sources:
- 400 infrastructure data layers
- Worldwide population data
- Real-time situational awareness data
- Weather-related information
iCAV NextGen provides analytical tools to view the daytime versus nighttime ambient population distribution, inquire about the approximate population for an area, create polygons to depict areas of potential flooding as part of an inundation analysis, and visualize areas for rough chemical spill analysis.
Learn more about the data available through iCAV NextGen.
DHS Earth
DHS Earth is a Keyhole Markup Language (KML) data feed that can be viewed using any geospatial visualization software compatible with KML files, such as Google Earth™ mapping service or Microsoft Virtual Earth.
DHS Earth provides:
- Homeland security-related data in KML format
- Infrastructure data layers from the 18 CIKR sectors
- Intuitive user interface
- Rapid response times
- 3-D globe-based viewers
iCAV Benefits
The iCAV suite of tools provides a single access point to multiple data sources, which saves time and provides the greater situational awareness that is essential for planning, responding, and recovering from disasters such as hurricanes or real-time events.
The Automated Critical Asset Management System (ACAMS) integrates iCAV NextGen's visualization tools and geospatial mapping capabilities making it easier for state and local ACAMS users to map their specific assets and use the additional geospatial data layers.
Access
There is no iCAV specific account. Anyone with a Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) username and password may access iCAV NextGen and DHS Earth from https://icav.dhs.gov. In order to use DHS Earth, you will need a geospatial visualization software tool compatible with KML files.
If you do not have a HSIN username and password, please contact the HSIN Helpdesk at 1-866-430-0162 or HSIN-Helpdesk@dhs.gov and request access to a HSIN community of interest, not access to iCAV.
