Corps begins clearing Hurricane Ike debris in Galveston

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractor, Ceres Environmental, in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation, begins its first FEMA-directed debris removal mission along 61st St., in Galveston. The Corps has contracted 20 crews to help clear the way for first responders and recovery teams to enter the city to assess impacts to infrastructure and to begin restoring essential public services and facilities.
