NEW YORK— Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson today met with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to underscore the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) important collaboration with the city’s leadership and state and local law enforcement on a range of homeland security-related priorities including counterterrorism and efforts to counter violent extremism. Yesterday, Secretary Johnson announced the DHS preparedness grant program allocations for Fiscal Year 2015. This year, New York City will receive over $180 million in funding for counterterrorism and emergency preparedness efforts.

Secretary Johnson praised New York City law enforcement and first responders for their use of prior grant funding to build critically needed capabilities against terrorism and other emergencies. Secretary Johnson thanked Mayor de Blasio for his continued partnership with DHS, and reiterated his commitment to work with the city’s leadership and state and local law enforcement to ensure our nation’s safety and security.
