Office of Policy Implementation and Integration

Overview

The Office of Policy Integration and Implementation (PII) provides policy development and analysis across the Department’s mission portfolios, including: counterterrorism; CBRN; transborder security; immigration; resilience; and screening. 

PII Comprises:

Counterterrorism Policy

Counterterrorism Policy serves as the Departmental policy lead for interagency counterterrorism. Key issues include countering violent extremism, disrupting terrorist travel and finance, and preventing terrorists from acquiring and using weapons of mass destruction.

Screening Coordination

Screening Coordination strengthens homeland security by enhancing screening and credentialing processes, programs, and technologies to facilitate legitimate travel and trade, ensure individual privacy and redress opportunities, and deter, detect, and deny access to individuals who pose a threat to the United States.

Resilience Policy

The Office of Resilience Policy works on the following issue areas: resilience, critical infrastructure protection, emergency preparedness and response, interoperable communications, climate change, space (e.g. satellites, solar storms), grants, and cybersecurity.

Immigration Policy

Immigration Policy is responsible for the development, evaluation, integration, and advocacy of Department policies in all mission areas related to immigration and border security matters. Key activities include regulatory development reflecting a Department- and Government-wide position on immigration matters; advising on the creation of an effective visa process that secures America's borders while facilitating legitimate travel; and developing integrated policy on refugee and asylum issues.

Chemical/Biological/Radiological/Nuclear Policy

This office is responsible for developing, coordinating, facilitating, and evaluating the effectiveness of policies and programs related to countering chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.  The scope of the office’s work ranges across the spectrums of awareness, prevention, protection, response, and recovery

Transborder Policy

Transborder Policy is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating policy related to the security of our national transportation systems (aviation, mass transit, passenger rail, freight rail, highway trucks, buses, pipelines and maritime), the global cargo supply chain, key resources, and critical infrastructure
