National Security Internship

The National Security Internship is an intensive full immersion summer program that combines Arabic language, Homeland Security, Intelligence and Area Studies, National Security Seminars, and on-the-job training experience at U.S. Department of Homeland Security or FBI Headquarters.

Starting in early June and concluding in mid-August each year, this program aims to develop the capacity of high-achieving undergraduate and graduate college students with critical skills and direct them toward potential careers at Homeland Security or FBI.  The National Security Internship will be open to qualified applicants who are able to meet the requirements to be granted a top-secret clearance and:

• are a United States citizen;
• are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate accredited college degree program with rising junior, senior, or graduate standing;
• have a declared major, minor or concentration in one or more of the following: International Relations, Homeland Security Studies, Political Science, Area Studies; Arabic, Middle East or Near East, Accounting/Finance, Computer Science/Information Technology, Engineering/Architecture, Law Experience, Law Enforcement or Investigative Experience, Military Experience, and Physical Sciences; Biology, Chemistry, Math, Nursing;
• have some knowledge of Arabic (rating score of 1+ or higher in Arabic speaking proficiency as measured according to the Interagency Language Roundtable skill level description);
• have a minimum 3.0 GPA;
• lived, worked or studied abroad (preferred); and
• have experience working with ethnic or religious minority groups (preferred).

Those accepted into the program will receive:

• an all expense paid summer in the nation's capital, including travel to Washington, D.C.,
• transferable college credits,
• a National Security Clearance,
• full room and board at The George Washington University, and
• an internship at either Homeland Security or FBI Headquarters.
