Description
The Student Volunteer Employment Program is a government-wide mechanism that allows students to work in the Department of Homeland Security as volunteers for valuable work experience directly related to their academic field of study. Though unpaid, students hired through the Student Volunteer Employment Program may receive educational credit for their internship.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered you must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be able to obtain and hold a security clearance
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time or part-time degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) student in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two- or four-year college or university, graduate or professional school
  • Make a formal agreement with the school and Department of Homeland Security
