Today is Ambassador Cresencio ‘Cris’ Arcos’ last day with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs. Cris has been an extraordinary ambassador for the department, since the beginning, and helped to fortify international partnerships that enhance our security at home while strengthening our reputation abroad as a welcoming nation to legitimate foreign visitors.
I have relied on Cris for his steady counsel, impeccable diplomacy and extensive knowledge of foreign affairs. His good judgment and leadership were instrumental in advancing our cooperation with Mexico and Canada under the Security Prosperity Partnership, and in increasing coordination with the UK and other key allies.
I am grateful for Cris’ service to the American people for three decades and at DHS for the past three years. I thank him for his contributions to the security of our homeland and wish him well in life after the department.
