I am pleased to announce my appointment of Paul Rosenzweig as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy. In this capacity, Paul will serve as second in command of our Policy Office and play a vital role in overseeing policy development and integration, and strategic planning throughout the department.

For nearly two years, Paul has been an important advisor on my senior leadership team both as Acting Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and as Counselor to the Assistant Secretary for Policy. He has brought to the department his experience as a trial attorney in the Environmental Crimes Section of the Department of Justice, as Investigative Counsel to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and as Senior Litigation Counsel in the Office of the Independent Counsel.

Prior to joining the department, Paul served as senior legal research fellow in the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation, where his research included civil liberties and national security and criminal law. Paul is a cum laude graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. He holds an M.S. in Chemical Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego, and a B.A from Haverford College.

I am grateful for Paul’s ongoing service at DHS, as well as for his commitment to continued policy developments and refinements that will further protect the homeland.
