Statement by DHS Press Secretary Laura Keehner on Secretary Chertoff’s Trip to Tennessee

Secretary Chertoff and FEMA Administrator Paulison will travel to Jackson, Tenn. this morning to tour the damage caused by recent storms and tornadoes. They will meet with local officials and hold a press availability at Union University. Additional details on the time and location of the availability are forthcoming.

Yesterday, Secretary Chertoff called the governors of the states impacted by the tornadoes. He spoke with Governors Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, Steve Beshear of Kentucky, Mike Beebe of Arkansas, Bob Riley of Alabama and Haley Barbour of Mississippi. Secretary Chertoff conveyed the thoughts and prayers of all Department of Homeland Security employees for the loss of life and destruction as a result of the recent storms and his commitment to support state and local response and recovery efforts as requested.
