Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff today issued the following statement on the resignation of the Director of State and Local Government Coordination, Joshua D. Filler:

“Josh Filler has served with distinction on homeland security matters even before the creation of DHS, when he directed local outreach and external affairs at the White House Office of Homeland Security. At the Department of Homeland Security, Josh led the effort to build strong new relationships and better information sharing channels with our state, local and tribal partners in government. I am grateful for his dedication to our mission and for the programs he developed, which will long benefit this Department and the people we serve.”

Filler’s resignation is effective November 5, 2005.

Filler has served as the Director of the Office of State and Local Government Coordination for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security since the creation of the department. He joined the White House Office of Homeland Security in May 2002 as Director of Local Affairs. Before joining the White House, Mr. Filler served in the Cabinet of Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani in New York, where he was responsible for emergency operational issues and managing contacts with local, state and federal officials on behalf of New York City following the events of September 11, 2001.
