Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today applauded President Obama's intent to nominate Caryn Wagner as Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis (I&A).

"Effective intelligence collection and analysis and robust information-sharing are essential to our mission of securing the nation," said Secretary Napolitano. "Caryn's extensive experience in the intelligence community will enhance our capability to collaborate with federal, state and local partners to assess and protect against homeland security threats."

As Under Secretary for I&A, Wagner will oversee DHS intelligence operations—leading a number of critical initiatives involving information sharing, engagement with state and local fusion centers and management of classified information systems security—while serving as DHS' primary point of contact for the intelligence community.

Biography

Wagner currently serves as senior faculty at the Intelligence Security Academy—providing education and training in intelligence community and resource management to the U.S. government.

Wagner previously held numerous positions involving oversight of the collection and analysis of intelligence—including Budget Director for the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (2007-2008) and Chief Financial Officer (2005-2007) and Executive Director for Intelligence Community Affairs (2004-2005) for the Intelligence Community.

Wagner has also held several positions in the Defense Intelligence Agency (1996-2004), including Director of the Military Intelligence Staff, where she was responsible for development and management of the General Defense Intelligence Program, and Senior Representative to the U.S. European Command and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Wagner holds a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and a master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California.
