We're looking for people of different skill sets to protect what matters most – our country, our people and our future.
Giving veterans a second chance to be a hero. The Human Exploitation Rescue Operation (HERO) Child-Rescue Corps Program is a paid federal internship that annually recruits, trains, and equips wounded, ill, or injured (VA/DoD Disability rating) veterans and transitioning service members to become computer forensic analysts (CFAs) to combat child exploitation and rescue of child sexual victims.
There is no more important day of the year than Veterans Day. It is the day when we pay tribute to those who have served in our Armed Forces, including those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
The Department of Homeland Security is committed to engaging the skills, talents, and experience of our nation’s veterans. We are proud to be one of the three agencies that hire the most veterans across the federal government; veterans enrich our workforce and help us meet our mission. 25.3% of our DHS workforce is made up of veterans who are continuing to serve in new ways. Veterans at DHS are our colleagues, friends, and neighbors, and they strengthen our organization and enrich our diverse workforce.
This year’s theme for Veterans Day is at the very center of military service: honor. Honor reflects the value and tradition of answering the call to duty, in service of one’s team, our institutions, and the nation. There are 16.5 million American veterans who embody this ethos, but none more so than the 54,000 veterans honorably serving in our Department of Homeland Security. It is an unparalleled privilege to serve alongside our DHS veteran colleagues and witness their inspiring dedication to our mission every day.
Secretary Mayorkas and I are committed to delivering the resources and support veterans need as they still proudly serve. For example, I am hosting a webinar on the PACT Act today, detailing new support and services available to Post-9/11 combat veterans. We will also be having events for veterans to include community service opportunities throughout November. This November - National Veteran and Military Families month - DHS will also recognize our colleagues who are still proudly serving their country. I encourage all of you to join this effort. Find time to have a conversation with a colleague who served in the military, read a story about a veteran serving alongside you on DHS Connect, or join a veteran and participate in a community service activity.
The DHS veteran community is an essential part of the Department’s workforce. Veterans bring talent, experience, and patriotism to DHS. Below is a list of resources available for our veteran employees and their families.
The Warriors-to-DHS Pathway (W2DHS) offers veterans transitioning from military service to civilian service the opportunity to gain the education, training, and experience they need to become Contract Specialists in the Acquisition Professional Career Program (APCP).
