Eventbrite Privacy Policy and Notice

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS or Department) will use Eventbrite for event planning, management, and attendee registration. DHS Office of Public Affairs (OPA) serves as the executive agent for the department’s use of Eventbrite and controls who at the Department has access to use the service.

Eventbrite is a third-party event planning, management, and registration tool and its privacy policy can be found at https://www.eventbrite.com/support/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/eventbrite-privacy-policy?lg=en_US. The DHS privacy policy and Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) govern the Department’s use of Eventbrite from a privacy perspective. The DHS privacy policy can be found at www.dhs.gov/privacy-policy. The DHS PIA "Use of Social Networking Interactions and Applications," September 16, 2010, also applies.

Users engaging with a DHS event on Eventbrite expect privacy protections while interacting with the Department. DHS will not use Eventbrite to: 1) actively seek PII ; 2) search Eventbrite for or by PII; and 3) "follow" public users proactively without a waiver from the DHS Privacy Office (exclusion is made to "following" other U.S. federal, state, local, and tribal government agencies.) To the extent a user posts or sends PII to a DHS Eventbrite event, DHS will use the minimum amount necessary to accomplish a purpose authorized by statute, executive order, or regulation.

DHS will use Eventbrite to: 1) establish user names and passwords to form administrator profiles; 2) create event pages; 3) register attendees; and 4) track attendance to official Department events.

Eventbrite collects information voluntarily provided by users who create accounts or register for events. Data collected by Eventbrite may include name, address, email address, and other personally identifiable information. While Eventbrite offers paid tickets events which require additional data collection, DHS accounts/events are not permitted to use these services.

Eventbrite also collects information considered non-personal, such as IP addresses, browser type, other characteristics of users’ device and software, domain names of users’ internet service provider, approximate geographic location, a record of users’ usage of the service, the time of usage, and aggregated personal data that cannot be used to specifically identify an individual.

The information posted on the Eventbrite event registration is available to the individual posting and to any and all users on the Eventbrite event page who are able to access the public-facing side of the account. To protect your privacy and the privacy of others, do not include your full name, date of birth, social security number, address, phone numbers, email addresses, case numbers or any other sensitive PII in public-facing comments or responses.

DHS may share information posted on a Eventbrite event if there is a demonstrated need to know, and will only post information after it has been appropriately approved and vetted by DHS OPA.
