Ottawa—U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today and discussed a variety of issues affecting both countries. They discussed ways in which the United States and Canada can work together to deal with security threats while minimizing the impact on commerce and tourism. The two talked specifically about initiatives on which the countries are currently cooperating, including information sharing, implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) and security for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. Secretary Napolitano pledged to continue her semi-annual meetings with her Canadian counterpart, Minister of Public Safety Peter Van Loan.
