"Today we honor those that previously served in the U.S. Armed Forces as well as those that are currently placing their lives in danger both at home and abroad to protect our country and its citizens. I am proud to recognize and honor the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard as well as the nearly 48,000 veterans who continue to serve their country as part of our civilian workforce at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The service and sacrifice of veterans enriches our Department and our nation, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the millions of military veterans across our country on behalf of DHS."
