As I said publicly when asked in Mexico last year, I was confident that the Government of Mexico would apprehend the fugitive drug lord Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman Loera. I commend President Peña Nieto, Secretary Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, the Mexican government, and all those involved in today’s arrest. His recapture demonstrates the Mexican government’s steadfast commitment to combating drug trafficking organizations and the violence they perpetuate. We will continue to work collaboratively with our Mexican partners to ensure that all of our citizens can live in peace and prosperity.
