Forensic scientists will demo various methods used to solve crimes in one-of-a-kind lab.
WASHINGTON – On July 20, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Deputy Director Daniel Ragsdale will unveil a major renovation of ICE Homeland Security Investigations’ Forensic Laboratory. Secretary Johnson and Deputy Director Ragsdale will participate in a media availability and then lead a tour of the facility.
This one-of-a-kind lab is the premier resource for forensics, research, training, and law enforcement issues related to travel and identity documents in the United States. Additionally, the lab provides advanced forensic, intelligence, and investigative support to DHS and other U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies, on a wide variety of criminal cases – including document fraud, gangs, drug trafficking, bulk cash smuggling, human smuggling, child exploitation and cybercrime.
Tours of the lab’s 40,000-square foot facility – including various research and crime labs -- will be open to credentialed media reps who have RSVP’d by Monday, July 18 with their name, media outlet, date of birth, and country of birth/citizenship.
