“Today, I accompanied the Vice President and other members of the Cabinet to Rockport and Victoria, Texas, to take stock of the damage and meet with survivors of Hurricane Harvey. I continue to be inspired by the stories of heroism and compassion during this time. We met children anxious to go back to school. We met a family with a ten-week-old baby working with a faith-based group to rebuild their grandparents’ home. These Texans, who have endured so much over the past week, are determined to get their communities and lives back to normal.
“Despite historic devastation, we are beginning to see signs of modest recovery. Airports and ports are reopening. Lights are coming back on. Roads are clearing. This will be a long recovery and there is much to do. To the people of Texas: we will be with you every step of the way.”
