We are excited to announce that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will host the fourth annual Strategic Industry Conversation on November 1, 2018, in Washington, D.C. At this full-day event, DHS leaders will discuss mission-focused topics that span multiple Components and affect the DHS Unity of Effort initiative. Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has been invited to open the event with a keynote on the Department’s priorities. Historical session topics have included cybersecurity, biometrics, and research and development. For this event, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary for Management, Claire Grady, has been invited to moderate a plenary session on the Challenges Confronting the Department. Other morning sessions include: Lessons Learned from an Unprecedented Disaster Season; Legislative Activity Impacting DHS; A Look at the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office; and Cyber Chief Information Security Officer Panel and Supply Chain Risk Management.
Deputy Under Secretary for Management, Chip Fulghum, has been invited to provide the afternoon keynote address. After his remarks, there will be a moderated panel discussion with the DHS Management Directorate leadership. Proposed speakers include: Chief Information Officer, Dr. John Zangardi; Acting Chief Financial Officer, Stacy Marcott; Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer, Roland Edwards; Chief Security Officer, Richard McComb; Chief Readiness and Support Officer, Tom Chaleki; and Chief Procurement Officer, Soraya Correa. The afternoon session also includes speakers discussing Category Management and Strategic Sourcing: Impacts of Category Management on DHS Procurement; the Science and Technology Directorate: Long Range Broad Agency Announcement and Silicon Valley Innovation Program; and Information Technology at DHS. There will also be time throughout the day where industry representatives can meet with DHS representatives to network and discuss various topics that affect the nation.
The Strategic Industry Conversation is part of Acquisition Innovations in Motion, or AIiM. AIiM is a structure and framework for creating recurring and meaningful engagements with industry, and targeted acquisition initiatives designed to improve the manner in which DHS does business. AIiM is an integral part of the Department's Unity of Effort initiative, which seeks to make DHS greater than the sum of its parts
