A main theme of SXSW 2019 is how fast cities are investing in smart technologies to solve problems and serve as innovation hubs for their region. S&T is investing in technologies to enhance security and resiliency for life-line operations, including transportation and public safety. But we can’t do this alone, which is why we’re going to SXSW. Recognizing no disaster is ever the same, S&T and CISA are looking for ways to apply innovative tech solutions to reduce risk and address real problems in operational settings such as evacuations, floods, active shooter, fires, hurricanes, and critical infrastructure. DHS looks forward to meeting developers, city planners, and systems designers, who know how to deal with unknowns and have shared experiences on how technology impacts risk and resilience. The technology and policy leaders found at SXSW will result in new strategic partnerships and awareness of trends for investing in cutting-edge research and development.
