2016 NCSWIC Annual Report & 2016 NCSWIC Strategic Priorities: Summary of Accomplishments

The NCSWIC Governance Committee recently released the 2016 NCSWIC Annual Report. This year-in-review document showcases NCSWIC’s recent successes and achievements. Sections of the report review NCSWIC committee products and activities, in-person meeting outcomes, and highlights from each of the regions.               

The committee also developed and published the 2016 NSCWIC Strategic Priorities: Summary of Accomplishments, which provides a snapshot of NCSWIC committee and working group key initiatives and products from 2016. In 2016, NCSWIC committees and working groups focused on several areas pertinent to the public safety community, including:

  • Developing and publishing a number of products to promote the role of the Statewide Interoperability Coordinator, including Supporting and Leveraging your Statewide Interoperability Coordinator, and continuing the publication of blogs, newsletters, and bulletins;
  • Supported the internal governance structure of the NCSWIC through modifications to core program documents, such as the NCSWIC Charter;
  • Explored the current state of Communications Unit (COMU) programs;
  • Developed educational materials to inform elected officials and decision makers on funding and sustaining land mobile radio (LMR) and to promote innovative ways to fund emergency communications systems and activities;
  • Discussed and communicated challenges associated with the T-Band relocation, information overload, and public safety grade communications;
  • Collaborated with federal partners to explore guidelines, best practices, and     considerations for implementing encrypted LMR communications; and
  • Provided guidance on Identity, Credentialing, and Access Management (ICAM)-related challenges through education and outreach materials
