Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Threat Awareness, Analysis, and Information Sharing

The Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD) supports our Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (FSLTT) partners by monitoring and reporting on threats.

As a part of our mission to lead the Department’s efforts to safeguard the United States against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) and related threats, our team monitors for potential threats and analyzes the data to generate and distribute risk assessments to our partners.

CWMD serves as the Department’s lead for CBRN Intelligence, providing tools, products, and expertise, which it shares with federal, state, and local partners. Our analysts develop products and conduct engagements with federal, state, and local partners sharing strategic and operational intelligence vital to keeping the homeland secure from CBRN threats.

Through NBIC, CWMD integrates and analyzes tens of thousands of sources about biological events impacting human, animal, plant, and environmental health. NBIC products enable government partners at all levels to make more informed decisions about developing biothreats and to better protect their communities.
