With the school year drawing to a close, many parents are beginning to make plans for the summer. After a year in which many kids spent far too much time on devices, you might be looking forward to the summer camp season. Summer camp provides enrichment opportunities, physical activity, social interaction, and fun for children who attend.
The CDC has issued safety guidelines to help summer camps operate safely this year [Link no longer valid, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/summer-camps.html]. These guidelines may lead to reduced capacity, and it might be harder to find the summer care you are seeking. If your usual summer camps are closed or if you are just looking for new opportunities for your children this summer, your Component Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can help.
Your EAP can conduct a search to help you narrow down your choices from a wide variety of summer enrichment programs, including sleepaway camps, day camps, and even virtual camp opportunities. Call your EAP and provide them with your location, the ages and interests of your children, and the type of camp experience you are seeking, and they will provide a listing of options with confirmed availability. For more information, contact your Component EAP, or send an email to worklife@hq.dhs.gov.
