In the Line of Duty

We were deeply shocked this morning to learn of the murder of a member of the DHS family: Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas was shot and killed last night in the line of duty while on patrol in San Diego County, California. DHS is working with the FBI and local law enforcement on the investigation, and a manhunt is underway for the gunmen who killed Agent Rosas.

The Secretary's statement from earlier today:

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of our own. Agent Robert Rosas was gunned down while protecting our nation’s Southwest border. This act of violence will not stand—nor will any act of violence against the Border Patrol. I have directed that the full resources of the Department assist in the investigation to find and bring to justice those responsible for this inexcusable crime.

My thoughts and condolences are with Agent Rosas’ family and his fellow agents at this difficult time. I want to commend those in the law enforcement and first responder community in Southern California for so quickly responding to the scene and attempting to save Agent Rosas’ life. His death is a vivid reminder that we are engaged in a serious effort to secure our border and that thousands of Border Patrol agents and other DHS employees risk their lives every single day to protect and defend our nation.”
CBP flags across the country are at half-staff today in Agent Rosas' honor. Our thoughts are with his family and all who knew him.

This is a tragedy. Agent Rosas has been needlessly sacrificed to the enemy! If DHS was doing it's job, this brutal murder may have been avoided. Why are our agents so often patroling alone? It is very common for our border agents to carry out their dangerous shifts alone in their vehicles, under-armed and separated from the enemy by lines in the sand! The area of the California border with Mexico is covered in chaparall and rocky areas of refuge for the invaders. When will the US government FINALLY wake up to the threat that comes with open borders? We are a SOVEREIGN NATION. We should expect our country's borders to be protected from foreign invasion, as well as drug cartels and smugglers of various contraband. Even after the horror of Sept. 11, 2001, our greedy, self-serving leaders...now Obama & his crew, the usual suspects in Congress, Janet Napolitano's DHS, DoD and whatever other culprits I am forgetting, CHOOSE TO LEAVE OUR BORDERS WIDE OPEN TO ALL COMERS! I place the blame for the chaos at our borders squarely on the heads of those I have mentioned! Please deploy a strong, well-armed US military presence to our borders! We have put up with this insanity long enough!

We need to secure the borders ... place our National guard on duty with bullets in their armament. No mickey mouse acts ... real bullets ... NOW!!!

I was disgusted and upset about the death of another American at the hands of illegal aliens. Border Patrol Agent Rosas met his very untimely death simply because we have NO border security. How many more Americans must be raped, maimed or killed at the hands of illegals? Our Gangster Government continues to ignore these terrible statistics and view the invasion of our country as the cost of doing business. To American citizens, illegal aliens are far from Cheap (as in Cheap labor). Do what we're paying you to do, secure our borders.

Please extend my sympathies to the family of Border Patrol Agent Robert Wimer Rosas, who was brutally murdered at age 30 in the line of duty on 23 July 2009. I have some understanding of the long-term consequences of losing a courageous officer.

As a consequence of a drunk driver, I was never able to meet my paternal grandfather. Instead, at age 30 like Agent Rosas, he was killed in the line of duty about 14 years before I was born as a California Highway Patrol Officer. My father, 9 years old at the time, was traumatized by his father's death, which contributed to my father's death in 1986 at the young age of 57. I have visited memorials listing the name of Officer Leonard Nelson in Sacramento, California and in Washington, DC.

The police of this once great nation used to have the border patrols backs and enforced the immigration laws on those that slipped by.

No longer can they trust the criminals in the government for a hand or the support they need.

It is certainly to late for this man and his family for the calvary to arrive. How about the next?

I hope that the Homeland Security Department has a representative at this weeks LaRaza Convention in Chicago. Instead of listening to the propaganda about the wonders of illegal aliens, they should be arresting these people for entering our country illegally.

Perhaps they can gather clues to help solve this weeks murder of Border Patrol Agent Rosas near San Diego instead of pandering to these criminal trespassers and act in collusion as they violate the civil rights of every American citizen.

My heart is SO heavy regarding this tragedy, but I am MAD also! This is yet ANOTHER murder which could have been prevented if our politicians cared enough about U.S. Citizens to properly man our borders! How many more of our lawmen and citizens must fall before America takes this seriously? Herr Schwartnegger, Princess Pelosi, Boxer, etc- the blood of this fine young man is on your hands for not giving a darn!

My heartfelt condolences to the Rosas family and the U.S. Border Patrol. We grieve with you.

I am disgusted with the DHS in its address of border security, and now with the weakening of the 287g program. This father would still be alive if the borders had been totally secured and so many other citizens would still be alive had illegal immigration been stopped years ago.
To weaken the 287g to only going after criminal illegals, and not the unlicensed driver is like pulling a bandage off one half of the wound while putting it on another. Blood still flows from the first half.
The only comprehensive immigration reform should be to work with the community law enforcement to ENFORCE all laws on the books, starting with federal all the way down to the laws for the local dog catcher.
The anger among legal immigrants is growing that these people get a free ride. They break a law by crossing the border, another by driving without a license and either work under the table so they don't pay taxes or steal an identity to work. Interesting that this country's remittances to Mexico are the second-largest contributor to their GDP.
For ICE to no longer perform worksite raids is tantamount to the new globalism, a world without borders. Is that what Americans want? Not I and not about 80 percent of the population, some who have lost jobs, still try to pay taxes and mortgages and food bills, while illegals get jobs and every other social service tax dollars go for.
DHS seems to be addressing the other half of the problem, not the problem in its entirety.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family members of this brave agent. He is survived by a wife and two small children ages 2 and 11 months.

This should never have happened. However, since the out of control policies of the former US Attorney for West Texas and his team charging law enforcement with crimes in the line of duty, the morals with in the ranks of the border patrol have not gotten any higher.

Last year when Agent Aguilar was ran over in the dunes in California near Yuma, agents told reporters they were hesitant to fire their weapons because they DID NOT want to end up like Ramos, Compean, and Sheriff Deputy Gilmer Hernandez.

The fact that congress and the past administrations have not done anything to really secure the southern border just puts blood on the hands of those who dont want a fence down there and who dont care about the american people. Too many in DC have been bought off by big businesses who want cheap foreign slave labor so that they dont have to pay an american citizen a decent living wage.

Until we have leaders in DC who will tell lobbyists to get out and never come back and until we have leaders who have the nerve and guts to tell the corrupt Mexican government to keep their noses out of our business and how to run out country, IM afraid things like this will keep happening. Just look at Houston, Texas, it has LOST FIVE Officers in the last three years to illegal aliens. and they have another still in the hospital after being shot in the face in March. he is permanently blind in one eye and one side of his body is paralized.

There are memorial pages set up on the internet for victims of murders by illegal aliens. the two pages I know of seem to have people added on EVERY WEEK...

to the hussy who is leading DHS.... do america a favor and just quit. Your changing of the policies regarding ICE and who gets arrested and who doesnt at job sites are putting more americans at risk every day and because of this, your basically keeping jobs from americans that the illegals now have. THAT IS UNAMERICAN and thats NOT part of your job.
Hey Janet, your in violation of the laws of the US constitution and other laws on the books. your job as well as the job of the president and congress is to PROTECT FROM INVASION both foreign and domestic. and right now on the foreign invasion, YOU SUCK

Not only Businesses but Our own Government entice IA's to come here with their promise, year after year,of Amnesty.

Border Patrol agents are constantly being harassed by IA's with rocks and other projectiles and even spat upon yet they know they must endure for fear of retaliation of our own Government and/or lawsuits from people who have no respect for our BP's or our laws.

Did agent Rosas hesitate for fear of retaliation?

God Bless our brave BP's and know we citizens understand the difficulty and danger you face everyday.

    - not only our entire society and America in general.
    - ..... Gee it doesn’t' get any worse.

How many more have to die? 200, 500 or more?

When will we see a flood of 20,000 border patrol agents or a few tanks to stop the drug war from penetrating our border?

When will we see and end to the illegal immigration crisis?

Enough of the political correctness and budget arguments.
Not stopping this problem is costing much more than if we had stopped it in the first place.

What a sad day for America. Agent Rosas' death was inevitable, due to the lack of will & commitment from our Govt & DHS to enforce our borders. Those of us in So. CA have lived with this INVASION for years. Our govt. not only doesn't protect us, they seem bent on siding with the Mexican govt., La Raza, etc. against its own American citizens.

My sincerest sympathies to the Rosas family...and all other BP Agents & their families who live in fear & wonder daily if DOING THEIR JOB will get them in legal trouble (like Agts. Ramos & Compean) or get them killed (like Agt. Rosas).

I'm 66 yrs. old & every day I wake up & wonder what the hell is happening to
my beloved country. Like many, my family has sacrificed & gone to war to protect our freedoms. (My career Marine officer husband to Vietnam & a son 2 years in Iraq.) WHILE HERE AT HOME WE DON'T SUPPORT the brave & dedicated Agts. protecting our borders.

As far as I'm concerned the govt/DHS has Agt. Rosas' blood on their hands.
I feel his tragic death is a result of so much corruption in DC & all the pandering & political favors to/from the Mexican govt, La Raza, etc.

Most has been said already but after all of the dust has settled one thing emerges clearly. Unless most of the illegals self deport, (cut off benefits, jail those who hire them, etc.); and until the double fence is completed as Pres. Bush promised (but cleverly did not fund) then the lives of our citizens and border agents, as well as police are in jeopardy. And then there is the matter of the drugs and terrorists which we know are entering our country through the sieve which is our southern border.

Has anyone else noticed that Obama is MUTE on this issue? I guess he's too busy having beer parties at the White House (to cover for his own mistakes), but he should be ashamed. In my estimation, President Obama's unwillingness to address the out-of-control violence and crime at our nation's border(s) proves what we Americans have known for quite some time: This administration is focused on but one thing. They are too busy with their plans to
take away the last of our freedoms through the implementation of Socialist tactics. Every effort, good or bad, has a tipping point. This administration's audacity is about to tip, and the run down the other side will be swift and sure. Americans won't knuckle-under to tyranny.

his job "protecting the American Citizens and legal immigrants".
I am truly disappointed with the leadership today -- when it
appears to defend those that have broken our laws!!! There is
no commements here that would pay back all of us for the support
you have taxed us for paying for those that do not pay! The only way
we can right this wrong is to institute 287G, Secure our Border
immediately and systematically State by State setup an office to
return the entire families of those that have entered illegally.
Yes, it can be done -- But as I am told -- It must start at the TOP!!! Additionally, STAND BEHIND OUR Police Dept, Code Enforcement
Dept, CIA and Military. Bring them home to defend our borders!!!
Your immediate response to the urgent need would be appreciated!

We know that the violence on our southern border is escalating

And yet we send our agents out in many cases out manned and

    Cheap labor and future votes

    This Administration and Homeland Security
    should be ashamed of themselves.

I wonder if they feel any responsibility for Agent Rosas's death

We have our brave men and women securing borders all around the world and yet we cannot secure our own - correction = we could, we just do not have the right people in office with enough canola's to do so - a situation we must change.

Memorial services set in El Centro for slain border agent Robert Rosas Jr.

A public memorial service in his hometown of El Centro is scheduled Friday for U.S. Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas, who was shot and killed while on duty near Campos last Thursday.

The service for Rosas, 30, is set for 9 a.m. at Southwest High School, 2001 Ocotillo Drive, El Centro, California 92243.

The alleged gunmen have yet to be publicly identified by U.S. officials, though a half-dozen arrests have been reported in Mexico and the U.S.

Rosas was investigating suspicious activity in an area notorious for alien and drug smuggling when he was shot several times.

The Rosas public memorial will include participation by the agent's family and U.S. Border Patrol officials.

The ceremony will include customary law enforcement services for a fallen fellow officer, including a Border Patrol Honor Guard, folded flag presentation, 21 gun salute, echo taps, bagpipers, riderless horse, missing man fly-over, and dispatch last call.

My sympathies and prayers go to the family of Robert Rosas.
Once again our government has let it's citizens down in favor of foreign national law breakers. Daily our border patrol lives
are in danger due to the non stop pandering of a government that refuses to work for the good of it's own people instead of a few elite. Enforce our immigration laws! Secure our borders!
No Amnesty, no way, no how!

I would like to see the US Gov triple the size of the USBP. With these extra personal I would like to see patrols in remote areas done in pairs with one man tracking and the other walking along at the ready with a full automatic M-4 or M-16. I would also like the USBP to switch to Glock 40 calibers with ammunition that has a one round knock down.

When is this country going to take control of the borders? How many innocent Americans have to die at the hands of illegal aliens? When is Janet Napolitano going to buy a vowel or get a clue and protect this country and its citizens. I am sick and tired of special interest groups deciding how this country will run. If your not an American and you do not have the proper documentation to be here, then get out. Why are you here when you hate America and we sure as hell don't want you here, you are a lawbreaker. NAPOLITANO- do your job or resign. No looking the other way. Support ICE, support the Border Parol and secure our southern border NOW.

The people who murdered this Agent likely would not have done so if there were a real pedestrian fence, cameras, and increased patrols on the north side of the border. Mexican security forces need to be in place on their side. This murder MUST be met with those improvements or it will be clear that neither side is serious about fixing the problem. Napolitano and the Obama administration refuse to secure the border for fear of upseting the illegal aliens. Agent Rosas probably had to think twice about defending himself for fear that Napolitano would prosecute him if he wounded an illegal, and this hesitation may have proven fatal. I hold the government responsible, in part, for his death. Why don't Democrats ever support our law enforcement officers? Why can't they enforce the immigration laws of this country?

By the way, I must have missed Obama's condolences to the family. I guess he didn't want to upset his compadres at La Raza, and he was too busy calling a Mass. police officer stupid.

When will DHS secure the border? Stop criminal illegal alien's from entering and deport illegal aliens currently in the country? How many more Americans will be sacraficed? No Amnesty, Secure the Border. Why is DHS giving out green cards to illegal aliens using fake and/or forged documents? Isn't that a crime in addition to entering the U.S. illegally? Can Americans use false ID to make a little extra money on the side and not be held accountable by the courts? Let's have one law and law for all.

What, in God's name, is America waiting for? Until arms are taken up by everyone who has one, going after everyone who "looks" like an illegal? If the people charged with enforcing our borders do not wake up and smell the coffee, that is THE distinct possibility. And when it begins, it will be Hell to pay before it is quelled. A lot of innocents will be killed and maimed. Everyday things like this happen takes us one step closer to the mayhem.

How many more American citizens, police officers, INNOCENT AMERICANS have to be killed and otherwise victimized by illegals before Janet Napolitano decided to secure that border and enforce current immigration law?

It's an absolute disgrace that Napolitano seems more concerned in protecting the "sensitivities" and rhetoric of mexico, than she does protecting American citizens - whom she has sworn to protect!

When does the lives of American citizens become more important than the so called "dreams of a better life" of those who violate our sovereignty on a daily basis! Those who immigrate to this country LEGALLY also want a so called "better life." They manage to pursue that opportunity legally. Yet Janet seems intent on rewarding those who violate our sovereignty with the same gift. Shameful!

The perception is that Janet Napolitano seems more concerned with passing amnesty and rewarding those who have violated our sovereignty than she does securing that border and enforcing current immigration law! That's unacceptable!

If Janet Napolitano cannot commit to enforcing our laws and protecting Americans from the ravages of illegal immigration, then she needs to be replaced with someone who will!

This border patrol agent is dead, due to our own DHS department lack of enforcement and weakness. I have come to the conclusion that DHS and Janet Napolitano care more about the lawless Mexicans on the other side than the American people. There is no hope and this is only the beginning of the drug cartel killings. How on earth can we expect murderers who are used to killing chiefs of police, police officers, political figures and etc, to not see the weakness of our Department of Homeland security in the US and not take advantage of it?, Until we get tough on illegal immigration and secure our borders we will have more Americans killed. My condolences and prayers go to the Rosa family and I hope and pray that Janet Napolitano will wake up and stop pandering to Mexicans and protect this land. We are not dealing with poor people in search of a better life, we are dealing with criminals and period. I wonder how someone can sleep at night knowing that this border patrol is dead because of her lack of enforcement on our borders.

This administration's policy on controlling illegal aliens, including criminals, crossing our borders is a joke and it was the same during the last administration. We must keep the pressure on these representatives who live in ivory towers. Our beach town has seen a spike in rapes, shootings and drug deals and many are done by illegal aliens. And, of course, we are a "sanctuary" city!

Obama has her under his finger so they can attempt to take over the country. Im not crazy when I see what happened with 9/11 and it was the American citizens who are stopped and frisked, delayed and harassed at the air ports. I see the drug cartel henchmen running around our country freely and now Border partol can't arrest them and Sheriff Arpio's deputies are told to let some go. No wonder Agent Rosas was killed and Obama never addressed the matter openly. He doesn't care about law enforcement as a whole

Agent Rosas' blood is on the hands of those who persecuted Ramos and Campeon. This never should have happened. There should be two agents in each vehicle that is patrolling the border, and they should be armed to the teeth. They should be allowed to shoot to kill and ask questions later when there is a border incursion. We are being invaded by violent, conscienceless foreigners. And we need a double-layer fence at ALL locations like this that are known to be frequented by coyotes and drug traffickers.

If you had continued with the double-layered fence, as required by Congress and the American people, and started by the Bush administration, this area would already have been fenced off! Instead you have dragged your feet on enforcing the Border, stopped all fence construction, and have softened up deportations of illegals under the 237g plan. You Madam, are SOFT on MEXICAN ILLEGAL ALIENS! Could this possibly be because you have a Mexican grandmother still living in Mexico? You should be doubly ashamed at this agent's death, as he was an American of Mexican decent. HE was enforcing the laws of THIS country, which he loved, and which, apparently, YOU do NOT!
BUILD a PROPER, DOUBLE LAYERED REAL FENCE, NOW! Prove that you're a REAL American, and not an open-borders sympathizer!

I live in Houston and we have lost two policemen to illegal aliens in as many years. We have a sanctuary policy that has now been reinforced by the DHS by way of taking the teeth out of 287(g) and the stoppage of workplace enforcement raids.

Houston has changed to the core. We now have multi-national corporations catering just to the hispanic population in this country, Supermercardo De Wal-Mart. Houston has had whole neighborhoods over run by illegal aliens, dropping the home values, overcrowding our schools and overcrowding our health care facilities.

Our border patrol needs backup, the U.S. military and our country needs to be taken back and gotten under control. Special interest groups have taken this too far and it needs to stop.

287G needs to be made stronger, weakened as it has been. All that bailout money so the govt. could take over banks, wall street, automobile manufacturers, etc. could have been better spent in BUILDING the FENCE. And adding more B.P. agents and pitting more National Guard on the border and allowing them and the B.P. agents to shoot back without fearing that our own government would prosecute them, a la Johnny Sutton.
Instead of investigating Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona he should be supported in his and his P.D.'s efforts to get rid of some of these illegal alien invaders who are killing our citizens.
Sheriff Joe would run DHS the way it should be run. The border would be flooded with agents and more of these illegal drug cartel killers would be caught.

The increased militarization of the border is almost certainly why Officer Ramos was murdered - the alien smugglers accused of killing him are increasingly desperate to find ways to bring aliens into the U.S. I doubt that double fences, or sending more guards to the border, or anything else, would have prevented this tragedy.

If anything, a greater military presence and a harder border barrier with Mexico puts the officers who patrol the line at greater risk. Without real reform of our immigration policies, we will continue to see deaths along the border, both of our officers, and of hundreds of individuals who die in the deserts and mountains, trying desperately to get here.

I don't believe that anyone should enter the US illegally, but I also don't believe that we can continue to allow death to be a likely consequence of illegal entry to the US. We need better immigration policies, and less demonization of our neighbor to the south.

My condolences to Officer Rosas' family and to his brave colleagues who continue to patrol the border.

With the border policy we have had the past few years- and still have, along with the additude our politicians have that illegals need special treatment instead of enforcement we are painting a target on the back of every Border Patrol and other law enforcement agent near the border.

We need to crack down on illegal immigration, human trafficing, false document enterprises, and other crimes fueled by our obviously failed border policies. We need to close the border, and quit coddling criminals that openly defy our laws.

This death is the fault of DHS and its inaction on border security. Agents are forced to work alone and know if they dare shoot their gun that they will be sued and harassed by the Mexican government, DHS, the illegal and all the anti-American, pro-illegal groups. The southern border is wide open, very dangerous, and Ms. Napolitano has decided to put her attention and resources on the northern border! We need armed military, with permission to shoot, on the southern border. There is a war going on there and ignoring it will not help.Securing our borders SHOULD be DHS's top priority.

We have filmed BP in the field, Sheriff's Deputy's, State officials, sanctuary movement representatives, average anglo and hispanic U.S. citizens, rancher's, filmed the devastation left behind by illegal aliens, riots in the street, cartel members killing people, etc., etc.

Our findings: The citizens of this country are being lied to, decieved by politicians and special interest groups. Its starts from the top on down. All of you who support the take-over of this country should be tarred and feathered, stripped of power and banished from this country.
