U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Paul Beeson, Director of DHS Joint Task Force – West addresses the evolving drug smuggling tactics and techniques used by transnational criminal organizations and how CBP is working to meet this threat and secure the Nation’s borders.
I am pleased to announce that last week I appointed Paul A. Beeson as the new Director of Joint Task Force-West (JTF-West). In this role, Director Beeson will oversee and coordinate the Department’s activities for our southwest land border.

On Aug. 31, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will travel to McAllen, Texas to receive a briefing on efforts of the Department’s three Joint Task Forces, JTF – East, JTF – West and JTF Investigations, and to discuss the Department’s Southern Border and Approaches Campaign Plan, the unified border security effort between U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

On June 15, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will travel to Karnes City, Texas to view operations at the Karnes County Residential Center and receive operational briefings from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Joint Task Force West.
Border security is a core mission of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Department has deployed historic levels of front-line personnel, technology, and infrastructure to the border to reduce the flow of illegal immigrants and illicit contraband while, at the same time, fostering legal trade and travel.
