Strong Digital Boundaries, Safer Connections

Summertime is a great time to reinforce the importance of setting healthy online boundaries. Know2Protect’s #DigitalBoundaries summer campaign inspires families to act now, leveraging the summer break to create these boundaries when kids and teens may have more free time to spend online. This initiative is a vital part of DHS’s drive to educate and empower children, teens, parents and trusted adults to prevent and combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse, not just during the summer, but all year long!

Here's How to Stay Safe and Smart Online This Summer:

Parents and trusted adults: Summer break means more screen time. Talk to teens about the real risks of sexting, including peer pressure, legal consequences and the permanency of data.

Gaming Safety

Parents and trusted adults: As summer heats up, kids spend more time gaming and not every online interaction is safe. Take time to talk with them about how to enjoy gaming while avoiding online risks. Set expectations early so play stays positive.

  • Research games and platforms to better understand the content and communities your child engages in.
  • Set time limits to avoid unhealthy screen habits.
  • Review game maturity ratings to ensure content is age appropriate.
  • Encourage open conversations about who they’re playing with and what’s being shared.

Stay connected to their digital world so gaming stays fun, positive and safe all summer long.
