intervene to help those 00:01:13.440 --> 00:01:16.480 who have while ensuring all prevention efforts 00:01:16.480 --> 00:01:18.920 are consistent with privacy protection, 00:01:18.920 --> 00:01:20.760 violence will persist 00:05:30.880 --> 00:05:34.680 as more children return to school fulltime. 00:05:34.680 --> 00:05:38.600 And we've seen increases in online threats while kids 00:05:38.600 --> 00:05:42.400 and adults, in fact, have been spending so much time 00:05:42.400 --> 00:05:47.480 doing their schooling or their work remotely. 00:05:47.480 --> 00:05:50.040 So we're committed to addressing these threats 00:05:50.040 --> 00:05:51.520 and to keeping our kids safe, 00:05:51.520 --> 00:05:55.800 but we also know that we at the Department of Homeland Security 00:05:55.800 --> 00:29:57.600 --> 00:29:59.920 that would be consistent with what they've made. 00:29:59.920 --> 00:30:03.840 And again, students have the ability to remain anonymous 00:30:03.840 --> 00:30:06.200 when they bring this information forward. 00:30:06.200 --> 00:30:09.400 We've got shooting threats that we receive almost on a monthly 00:30:09.400 --> 00:30:12.600 basis from school districts, especially 00:32:59.000 --> 00:33:01.240 You know, what other things are they posting, 00:33:01.240 --> 00:33:03.080 what are they filling themselves up with. 00:33:03.080 --> 00:33:05.040 Of course, we want to get them the help that they need. 00:33:05.040 --> 00:33:07.000 But when we look at the specific hashtags, 00:33:07.000 --> 00:33:09.000 when we see that says don't worry guys, 00:33:09.000 --> associated tags with the larger family of tags 00:34:55.760 --> 00:34:59.360 highlight various disorders and each of those disorders 00:34:59.360 --> 00:35:02.440 has a masculine and a feminine variety. 00:35:02.440 --> 00:35:05.560 So paying attention to these hashtags is essential. 00:35:05.560 --> 00:35:08.920 So the my Secret Family, the Secret Society 123, 00:35:08.920 --> 00:35:12.160 --> 00:35:21.000 or I'm feeling #Mia today, we know what they are, 00:35:21.000 --> 00:35:22.400 what they are self-ascribing 00:35:22.400 --> 00:35:26.320 and their afflictions that they are showcasing online. 00:35:26.320 --> 00:35:28.920 Now the good news is, if we go back to this previous post, 00:35:28.920 --> 00:35:30.440 you'll see that this journal article, 00:35:30.440 --> happens when users start to put those hashtags 00:35:53.400 --> 00:35:56.320 on their post, is that they'll find something like this. 00:35:56.320 --> 00:35:58.160 When you click or when you search for 00:35:58.160 --> 00:36:01.120 some of these hashtags, Secret Society 123. 00:36:01.120 --> 00:36:05.200 Instagram knows about it and it says post with these words 00:36:05.200 --> 00:36:07.960 often encourage other behaviors that can cause harm 00:36:07.960 --> 00:36:09.160 and even lead to death. 00:36:09.160 --> 00:36:13.200 So they lead with support, they lead to kids' help phones 00:36:13.200 --> 00:36:17.560 or wherever state specific resources for students. 00:36:17.560 --> 00:36:20.400 But then you still have the availability to show these posts 00:36:20.400 --> 00:36:22.240 and use these posts. 00:36:22.240 --> 00:36:23.400 So even if it saves one life, 00:36:23.400 --> 00:36:25.440 I'm totally fine with it being there. 00:36:25.440 --> 00:36:27.920 So is #EDTW, but utilizing that 00:37:16.160 --> 00:37:20.160 same hashtags of #Ana, #Mia, 00:37:20.160 --> 00:37:22.960 hashtag whatever it is. 00:37:22.960 --> 00:37:27.800 EDNOS is eating disorder not otherwise specified. 00:37:27.800 --> 00:37:29.960 So when we look at utilizing some of these 00:37:29.960 --> 00:37:31.320 hashtags within Twitter, 00:37:31.320 --> 00:37:34.200 you can see that we are already into a rabbit hole. 00:37:34.200 --> 00:37:36.640 And this, all these screenshots, by the way, were captured 00:37:36.640 --> 00:37:40.800 within the first two weeks of January of this year. 00:37:40.800 --> 00:37:43.240 So these are very recent, these are very new. 00:37:43.240 --> 00:37:45.480 But they are still using those same hashtags 00:37:45.480 --> 00:37:47.880 all the way 00:38:04.520 --> 00:38:08.000 Well, it's because I'm going to interact in other echo chambers 00:38:08.000 --> 00:38:12.520 with others who are suffering the same disorders 00:38:12.520 --> 00:38:15.400 and they are encouraging these other disorders as well. 00:38:15.400 --> 00:38:17.440 You can see this one that says eat your weight. 00:38:17.440 --> 00:38:19.440 So day one, eat the same amount of calories 00:38:19.440 --> 00:38:21.920 as what you weigh in pounds, 00:38:21.920 --> 00:38:23.640 which for anybody is not going to be 00:38:23.640 --> 00:38:26.720 a sustainable amount of calories per day, 00:38:26.720 --> 00:38:28.640 but we're seeing others encouraging 00:38:28.640 --> 00:38:31.560 those behaviors online. 00:38:31.560 --> 00:38:34.480 One of the other things that we've started to see is that 00:38:34.480 --> 00:38:36.040 they're necessarily isn't a causation, 00:38:36.040 --> 00:38:37.720 but one of the things that we've noticed 00:38:37.720 --> 00:38:41.640 is that those who actually are engaging in behaviors 00:38:41.640 --> 00:38:46.080 such as this online share thinspo posts, 00:38:46.080 --> 00:38:48.480 which is what they refer to as thinspiration, 00:38:48.480 --> 00:38:50.040 so inspiration of people 00:38:50.040 --> 00:38:52.400 who are extremely thin and underweight. 00:38:52.400 --> 00:38:56.040 Where we start to see a lot of increase in post usage 00:38:56.040 --> 00:39:00.040 is actually related to K-Pop. 00:39:00.040 --> 00:39:02.520 I will fully admit, I am not a K-Pop fan. 00:39:02.520 --> 00:39:06.200 It's not the life, it's not the type of music that I listen to. 00:39:06.200 --> 00:39:09.200 However, we start to see those who are inspired 00:39:09.200 --> 00:39:12.360 by the girls who are part of it, 00:39:12.360 --> 00:39:15.400 black pink is the largest one that we've seen. 00:39:15.400 --> 00:39:20.080 Utilizing them as thinspo so I can lose my appetite. 00:39:20.080 --> 00:39:23.520 But it's even been discussed in other forums, such as Reddit, 00:39:23.520 --> 00:39:26.080 where they're talking about how negative it is 00:39:26.080 --> 00:39:28.840 and how it is ruining some of these conversations 00:39:28.840 --> 00:39:30.760 that are happening about K-Pop 00:39:30.760 --> 00:39:33.200 because the other individuals who are suffering 00:39:33.200 --> 00:39:36.120 with eating disorders are posting a lot about them. 00:39:36.120 --> 00:39:39.520 So it is a concerning trend that we are seeing for those 00:39:39.520 --> 00:39:43.000 who maybe are, make their life about K-Pop. 00:39:43.000
