On October 23, 2014 Secretary Jeh Johnson and Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas awarded the Secretary’s Exceptional Service Award to the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccination Team, consisting of Jeffrey L. Babcock, Lawrence R. Barrett, DVM., Michelle M. Colby, Teresa B. de los Santos, Ph.D., John G. Neilan, Ph.D., Lavanya S. Ratnam, Luis L. Rodriguez, Michael K. Santillo, Christopher J. Schutta, Ph.D., Robert M. Webb and Laszlo Zsak, in recognition of exceptional and collaborative achievement in the successful development and licensing of the world's first molecular foot-and-mouth disease vaccine for cattle, the most significant scientific accomplishment in foot-and-mouth disease vaccine development in the past 50 years.  It is also the first foot-and-mouth disease vaccine that the U.S. can manufacture on the mainland.  (DHS Photo by Barry Bahler/Released)
