DHS Issues Regulation to Preserve and Fortify DACA
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas today announced that the Department has issued a final rule that will preserve and fortify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy for certain eligible noncitizens who arrived in the United States as children, deferring their removal and allowing them an opportunity to access a renewable, two-year work permit.

DHS Announces Funding Allocations for FY 2022 Preparedness Grants
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced final allocations for $550 million for seven Fiscal Year 2022 competitive preparedness grant programs. These allocations, together with the almost $1.5 billion in non-competitive grant funding announced earlier this year, total more than $2 billion in FY 2022 to help prepare our nation against man-made threats and natural disasters.

CWMD’s Acting Assistant Secretary Gary Rasicot traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, this week to lead a bipartisan staff delegation from the House of Representatives’ Homeland Security Committee in a series of meetings with Georgia state officials and local leaders from three of CWMD’s signature programs: BioWatch, Securing the Cities (STC), and the Mobile Detection Deployment Program (MDDP). Mr. Rasicot was joined by senior congressional staff from the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness Response and Recovery.

Four Guatemalan Nationals Indicted by Joint Task Force Alpha and Arrested as Part of Takedown of Deadly Human Smuggling Network Based in Guatemala
On Tuesday, extensive coordination and cooperation efforts between United States and Guatemalan law enforcement authorities culminated in the Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) conducting a significant enforcement operation to disrupt and dismantle a transnational human smuggling organization. This operation included the arrest of four alleged human smugglers who have been indicted in the United States.
