Interworking Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT) between Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Report

Body

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), under its Small Business Innovation and Research program, funded Catalyst Communications Technologies and MURUS Cybersecurity LLC to examine the feasibility of developing a standards-based interworking solution that would enable communications between Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems; and communications between different LMR systems. Interworking communications between first responders using existing public safety LMR radios and those using Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT) compliant devices on the new FirstNet™ National Public Safety Broadband Network is essential for widespread adoption. The final reports of this research have proven the technical feasibility of building an Interworking Gateway (IWG) function that provides MCPTT voice interoperability between LTE and LMR systems and between LMR systems. This analysis has included both Project 25 (P25) and non-P25 radio systems.

For more info on this important research please read the reports.
