The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate has leveraged laboratory findings to develop a predictive model to estimate the natural decay of the virus that causes COVID-19 under a range of environmental conditions. The current model shows the effects of temperature and relative humidity on the virus while suspended in respiratory droplets, on surfaces. The model can be integrated into an Excel spreadsheet or web-based application to estimate the persistence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Future iterations will expand the range of conditions.
