TSA employs a risk-based strategy to secure U.S. transportation systems, working closely with transportation sector stakeholders, as well as the partners in the law enforcement and intelligence community.

  • e-Law Enforcement Officer Logbook Program (e-Logbook)

    August 31, 2009. The e-Logbook is as an electronic means of logging and confirming the identity of Law Enforcement Officers with a need to Fly Armed (hereinafter LEOFA). LEOFAs must satisfy the requirements set forth in 49 CFR § 1544.219, carriage of accessible weapons, prior to being admitted into an airport's sterile area or on-board a commercial aircraft.

  • Workplace Violence Prevention Program

    The Workplace Violence Prevention Program provides: national guidance to TSA program coordinators regarding the prevention of, and response to, incidents of actual or alleged workplace violence; reviews reports of credible threats or actual incidents of workplace violence; provides advice and guidance to program coordinators and management regarding agency action; and coordinates training for program coordinators and TSA employees and contractors.

  • DHS/TSA/PIA-029 TSA Operations Center Incident Management System

    TSA's Transportation Security Operations Center (TSOC) serves as TSA’s coordination center for transportation security incidents and operations. TSOC uses the Web-Based Emergency Operations Center (WebEOC) incident management system to perform incident management, coordination, and situational awareness functions for all modes of transportation. The system maintains information including personally identifiable information (PII) in connection with its operations. The system also collects and compiles reports from federal, state, local, tribal, foreign, and international sources and private sector security officials on incidents related to threats to transportation or national security. TSA is updating this Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA), last published on July 12, 2010, to reflect that the system receives information about individuals on watchlists and their co-travelers; logs Amber Alerts and disseminates them to the field; collects open-source information relating to transportation security or operations matters; and collects PII related to other incidents reported to TSA including significant public health-related risks to the traveling public and certain TSA employee information.

  • Access to Sensitive Security Information in Contract Solicitations (SSI)

    The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) conducts security threat assessments on individuals and companies that seek access to Sensitive Security Information (SSI) necessary to prepare a proposal in the pre-award phase of contracting with TSA. SSI is a form of unclassified information that, if publicly released, would be detrimental to transportation security. Pursuant to the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA), TSA also enters Other Transaction Agreements (OTA), procurement contracts, and other agreements with various public and private entities in furtherance of its security mission, and receives submissions for the Qualified Products List (QPL). In certain cases, TSA may need to conduct security threat assessments (STA) on individuals and entities that seek access to SSI necessary to prepare a proposal or submission in response to these situations. TSA is updating this Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) to address the collection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from members of the public before granting access to SSI and to clarify the records retention. 

  • TSA Enterprise Search Portal (ESP)

    TSA is updating this Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) to reflect that the system (now known as the Real-time Analytic Platform for Incident Deterrence (RAPID)) will expand its search capability beyond the original three TSA databases.

  • TSA Canine Website System (CWS)

    The Canine Website System (CWS) is a web-based system administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program (NEDCTP) to coordinate operations. CWS is a privacy sensitive system because it collects personally identifiable information (PII) from program participants to facilitate training, foster communication, and to perform administrative functions. In accordance with the Section 208 of the E-Government Act of 2002, TSA is updating CWS’s Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) from January 2012 to reflect that it also collects PII from members of the public interested in adopting NEDCTP canines.

  • DHS/TSA/PIA-039 - TSA Encounter Analysis Branch

    The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), Encounter Analysis Branch (EAB) seeks to improve TSA’s ability to identify potential risks to transportation security. Initial efforts by the EAB involved discovering and analyzing previously unknown links or patterns among individuals who undergo a TSA security threat assessment (STA), passengers identified as a match to a government watch list, and passengers who do not present acceptable identification documents to access the sterile area of an airport whose identity cannot be verified through the identity verification process. TSA is updating the EAB Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) to reflect operational changes to the program to include new investigative steps that may be taken in performing security threat assessment reviews on transportation sector workers and TSA Pre✓® participants.
