Amphibious eXtreme Terrain Vehicle for Ice Rescue Fact Sheet
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) are partnering to develop a new ice rescue vehicle prototype. Once completed, the final vehicle will be durable; capable of operating in extreme cold, on land, on ice, and in water; and be able to easily transition between each type of terrain. The vehicle will accommodate up to three rescue team members and three passengers and support rescue and lifesaving equipment.

Master Question List for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) developed the following “master question list” that quickly summarizes what is known, what additional information is needed, and who may be working to address such fundamental questions as, “What is the infectious dose?” and “How long does the virus persist in the environment?”
The Master Question List (MQL) is intended to quickly present the current state of available information to government decision makers in a possible operational response to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and allow structured and scientifically guided discussions across the federal government without burdening them with the need to review scientific reports, and to prevent duplication of efforts by highlighting and coordinating research.

Waterways Analysis and Management System Fact Sheet
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is developing port and waterway resiliency analytical visualization tools, data, and technologies to provide USCG waterway managers with more effective and user-friendly capabilities. This effort will enhance the USCG’s Waterways Analysis and Management System (WAMS) and include research on other capabilities to address DHS maritime challenges, while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) and geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) events pose significant threats to the nation’s critical infrastructure. DHS has been directed to conduct research and development to better understand impacts of EMP and GMD events and develop technologies and guidelines to enhance and protect critical infrastructure.

DHS Indigenous Languages Plan
DHS recognizes the importance of effective communication with persons who are limited English proficient (LEP) across its many missions and functions and is committed to meeting the requirements of Executive Order 13166, Improving Access to Services for Persons with Limited English Proficiency (August 11, 2000).
The DHS Indigenous Languages Plan is a vehicle for strengthening language services for Indigenous migrants who are encountered and served in DHS programs, activities, and operations, as migration levels in the U.S. from Guatemala and other countries with large Indigenous populations have increased significantly.
