  • Coastal Resilience Center Fact Sheet

The Coastal Resilience Center (CRC) conducts research and education to enhance the resilience of the nation’s people, infrastructure, economies, and the natural environment, to the impacts of coastal hazards such as floods and hurricanes. This includes developing new tools and methods to help communities mitigate, recover from, and adapt to natural hazard risks, including the effects of future trends. CRC also develops educational programs to meet current and future workforce needs across the homeland security enterprise in coastal and computational engineering, computer science and engineering, social science, coastal infrastructure, disaster science, and natural hazards resilience.

  • Soft-Target Engineering to Neutralize the Threat Reality Fact Sheet

The Soft-Target Engineering to Neutralize the Threat Reality (SENTRY) is a nationwide consortium led by Northeastern University, which develops strategies and innovative solutions to secure environments that are easily accessible to large numbers of people—such as crowded spaces and transportation systems—from targeted attacks that inflict grave injury to human life and property. These environments often have limited security or protective measures, making them vulnerable to attack, which requires the development of next-generation tools and methodologies.

  • Fusion Center Assessments

Each Fusion Center Assessment evaluates fusion centers' adherence to selected performance measures, ensuring functional consistency across the National Network.

  • Detection of Presence of Life through Walls Fact Sheet

For law enforcement officers looking for victims and hunting criminals, searching around corners and behind blind spots can be time-consuming and dangerous. The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Detection of Presence of Life through Walls system is a radar-based capability that will enable officers to safely detect life behind walls, barricades, household objects, and doors and will enhance their situational awareness and potentially save lives.

  • Gunshot Detection Systems Fact Sheet

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) completed the Gunshot Detection technology development effort to enhance the commercial off-the-shelf Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System as it is designed to operate in outdoor environments and be easily moved and “installed” by one or two officers.

Under the Biden-Harris Administration, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been executing a comprehensive strategy to continue to secure our borders and build a safe, orderly, and humane immigration process. After inheriting a broken and dismantled immigration system, since January 2021 DHS has effectively managed an unprecedented number of noncitizens seeking to enter the United States, interdicted more drugs, and disrupted more smuggling operations than ever before.

  • Wildland Firefighter Respirator Device Operational Field Assessment Report

The Wildland Firefighter Respirator Device (WFRD) is a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) that is designed to provide protection against both gas and particulate respiratory hazards, and withstand the extreme environmental conditions associated with wildland firefighting operations. The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and TDA Research, Inc. funded and managed the development of the WFRD prototype in a chest-mounted version and a hip-mounted version. The WFRD is intended to be lightweight and low-profile for long duty shifts, and easy to use in remote locations.
