LRBAA Today Webinar Series

Innovation is the driving force behind the work of the DHS S&T and engaging with industry is essential to delivering the best technology solutions to DHS’s end-users and operators. S&T’s Long Range Broad Agency Announcement (LRBAA) is a standing, open invitation to the scientific and technical communities to submit proposals for open topics that address priority homeland security needs.

The LRBAA Today webinar series is an opportunity for the innovation community to learn more about the Department’s research challenge areas, specific to LRBAA topics, and understand how to use the LRBAA program to work with S&T. Check out the videos below to learn more about the work currently being pursued under the topic areas and gain context for the solutions being sought.

LRBAA Today: Explosives Detection with DHS Science and Technology Directorate seal.

Explosives Detection | WATCH THE VIDEO!
Across the Homeland Security Enterprise, explosive threats are a major concern in aviation and checkpoint security. To detect traces or residues of explosives left on surfaces, such as a hand or piece of luggage, DHS Components deploy explosives trace detectors (known as ETDs) as a secondary screening method. Due to the wide variety of homeland security end users and an increase in homemade explosives and nefarious tactics, new and improved ETDs are needed. During this webinar, viewers will learn about the technologies DHS S&T is seeking to develop advanced ETD equipment to detect and identify hazardous materials contained or obscured by a non-metallic barrier (i.e., vials/bottles/packages), or those found in cargo, baggage, or personnel screening at security checkpoints and in air transport environments.
