The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) works to develop and integrate cutting-edge technologies to improve safety and security. Through trusted relationships with nationwide first responders, S&T is delivering technology solutions that improve emergency response and agile decision making. At DHS, we want Congress to fully realize how investments in research, development, and innovation are reducing risks and keeping the brave men and women who put their lives on the line each day safe.

Keynote Remarks: Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee’s Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Innovation Subcommittee, will kick off the discussion on how investments in science and smart technologies are enabling nationwide first responders to meet ever-changing demands and save lives.

Welcome Remarks: Kathryn Coulter Mitchell, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Under Secretary for Science and Technology, will provide a brief overview of how S&T is mobilizing science and innovation to equip first responders with the tools needed to protect our way of life and secure our future.

First Responder Perspectives: Know how S&T serves as a trusted resource for understanding problem sets and delivering solutions to address current and emerging threats.

Early Warning and Detection Sensors to Mitigate Wildfire and In-building Risks: Learn how S&T is safeguarding communities through enhanced prediction and awareness capabilities to adapt to risks, maintain operational effectiveness, and increase community resilience.

Public Safety and Bomb Squad Support: Realize how S&T supports public safety bomb technicians and provides a collaborative structure for addressing Improvised Explosive Device response and defeat capability gaps identified by federal, state, and local bomb technicians, including the National Bomb Squad Commander’s Advisory Board.;
