Peter “Pete” Hatch provides programmatic oversight and leadership to all Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) personnel engaged in intelligence-related activities.

Mr. Hatch leads more than 1,200 intelligence professionals that provide comprehensive and accurate criminal analysis to criminal investigators to illuminate, disrupt and dismantle terrorist, transnational and other criminal organizations that threaten homeland security or harm public health and safety.

Mr. Hatch pioneered the HSI Framework for Criminal Analysis, an analytical tradecraft specifically developed to enable intelligence and investigative personnel to illuminate transnational criminal networks in ways that can be operationalized for disruption and dismantlement.

Prior to this assignment, he was Deputy Director of DHS Joint Task Force – Investigations, where he led an interagency team of criminal investigators, intelligence specialists and law enforcement operators working against the top criminal networks threatening homeland security.

Mr. Hatch served more than 30 years in the U.S. Coast Guard at the intersection of operations, intelligence and criminal investigations. He entered the intelligence profession in 1993 at the Coast Guard Intelligence Coordination Center as an Indications and Warning Watch Officer and then Chief of the Counter-Drug Branch. He would return 20 years later as the Center’s Commanding Officer. Other intelligence assignments included Chief of the Maritime Intelligence Center in Miami, Florida; Intelligence Section Chief of DHS Task Force Southeast in Miami, Florida; maritime specialist at the Crime and Narcotics Center in Langley, Virginia; and Officer-in-Charge of the U.S. Embassy’s Tactical Analysis Team in Barranquilla, Republic of Colombia.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He is a graduate of the Foreign Service Institute’s National Security Executive Leadership Seminar and a member of the Police Executive Research Forum. He was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2019.
