NEWARK, N.J. — Andrew Chu, 33, of Edison, was charged with possessing images of child sexual abuse on April 18 following a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Newark investigation.
“Andrew Chu has allegedly once again been caught in possession of heinous child sexual abuse material he obtained from the darknet to satisfy his deviant desires, a crime for which he’s been convicted in the past,” said HSI Newark acting Special Agent in Charge William S. Walker. “Let it be clear, possession of child sexual exploitation will not be tolerated, and HSI is dedicated to taking down websites that promote horrific crimes against some of our society’s most vulnerable — our children and teens.”
According to the investigation, from May 2023 through November 2023, Chu used his computer to view approximately 100 images of child sexual abuse, including depictions involving prepubescent children. He was also convicted of possession of child sexual abuse material in a prior federal prosecution in 2021.
