South Dakota Man Sentenced 20 Years for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

Release Date: May 24, 2024

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The U.S. attorney for the District of South Dakota announced May 8 the sentencing of a Sioux Falls man convicted of possession of child sexual abuse material.

Marc Jones, 30, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. Jones must register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) St. Paul and the Sioux Falls Police Department.

Jones was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2023. He pleaded guilty Feb. 23, 2024.

The conviction stemmed from an incident on March 23, 2023, when Jones possessed images of child sexual abuse material on his cellphone. The images depicted minor girls exiting a shower. The girls were unaware of the photographs being taken. Jones was previously convicted in 2014 of fourth-degree rape in South Dakota.
