Season 3 begins with a deep dive into the Science and Technology Directorate’s cybersecurity R&D agenda.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) marks the start of Infrastructure Security and Resiliency Month with the launch of a brand new season of the Technologically Speaking Podcast. The first episode, released today, features a candid conversation with Senior Cybersecurity Advisor Donald ‘DC’ Coulter from S&T’s Technology Centers. Coulter and host Dee Saini discuss S&T’s cyber infrastructure work, covering recent advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the preservation of data and system integrity.

“With great opportunity from a technology perspective, there are risks and challenges you just need to think about,” Coulter says in the episode, titled ‘A Cat and Mouse Game.’ “I'm very excited about the technologies and as they grow, I'm always in the room—every time we talk about risk management and threat responses—I'm always trying to inject some conversation about the opportunities that these technologies provide us. I just want us all to think through when we're creating these technologies, what can we do to make sure we're designing and developing them securely.”

Technologically Speaking hosts insightful, thought-provoking, and unscripted conversations with S&T’s experts discussing timely national security challenges and the scientific solutions the Directorate is developing to address them. Season 3 episodes will also highlight additional infrastructure-related themes such as space systems exploration, maritime security, SAFETY Act anti-terrorism certification, combatting online fraud, the future of emergency response, and more.

Not only does the podcast explore the work of S&T and the professional expertise of the people who work here, but it also peels back the ‘curtain’ so audiences can get to know them as individuals, and learn about their backgrounds and interests. In this week’s episode, listeners will explore Coulter’s time serving in the U.S. Army, his love of music, as well as his cameo in a major motion picture.

“We have extraordinary talent here at S&T and many exciting stories planned for this season, which only begin to scratch the surface of how S&T addresses infrastructure resilience for DHS and the nation,” said Saini, who co-hosts the podcast with media chief John Verrico. “We’re delving into the true meaning of ‘infrastructure’ and sharing some unique perspectives. We’re eager for audiences to hear them all.”

S&T will release new episodes of Technologically Speaking weekly on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and the S&T website. Subscribe now to be notified as soon as each episode is released.
