The Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) connects the academic community with relevant DHS programs and opportunities. This page provides information on current DHS HQ academic-focused initiatives and upcoming engagements with academia.

DHS-Wide Memorandums of Understanding

In FY 2021, OAE launched the “Come to U.S. DHS” diversity initiative to create Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with individual universities. Specifically, OAE aims to create partnerships to fill noticeable gaps in federal employee representation across faiths, races, genders, ages, and geographical locations. The diversity MOU's establish a mutually beneficial relationship between DHS HQ and the specific academic institution.

The partnership loosely provides the framework for direct DHS-wide use, applicability, and collaboration with school administrators, faculty, students, and the academic community to impact outreach, internship opportunities, externships for academic credit, temporary assignments, academic programs and pathways to permanent federal hire.
