Department of Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano today toured the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Cyber Crimes Center (C3)—a multifaceted facility for investigating international criminal activity conducted on or facilitated by the Internet.
“Cybersecurity is a critical part of our mission to protect our country,” said Secretary Napolitano. “The ICE Cyber Crimes Center supports our law enforcement partners across the country through state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge cyber crime training.”
During the tour, Secretary Napolitano discussed the C3’s critical missions, including protecting against child exploitation, tracking criminal activity with state-of-the-art digital analysis and data recovery technology, and assisting in ICE investigations where the Internet has been used to facilitate crimes.
Established in 1997, C3 utilizes the latest technology to conduct trans-border criminal investigations into Internet-related crimes, including smuggling, child pornography and child sex tourism.
ICE encourages the public to report suspected child predators and any suspicious activity through its toll-free hotline at 1-866-347-2423. This hotline is staffed around the clock by investigators. Suspected child sexual exploitation or missing children may be reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, an ICE partner, at 1-800-843-5678 or www.cybertipline.com.
