Dr. Uri D. Herscher of the Skirball Cultural Center, Los Angeles, to be recognized as an Outstanding American by Choice

WASHINGTON – On April 5, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will participate in a special naturalization ceremony for 14 citizenship candidates from 14 countries at the U.S. National Archives.

Deputy Secretary Mayorkas will be joined by Archivist of the United States David Ferriero, who will deliver welcoming remarks, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director León Rodríguez, who will administer the Oath of Allegiance.

During the ceremony, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas will present the “Outstanding American by Choice” award to Skirball Cultural Center Founder, President, and CEO Uri D. Herscher. The Outstanding American by Choice initiative recognizes the outstanding achievements of naturalized U.S. citizens who have made significant contributions through civic participation, professional achievement, or responsible citizenship.

Dr. Herscher is the founder of the Skirball Cultural Center, an institution dedicated to the appreciation of Jewish heritage, American democratic ideals, and the formative impact of immigration on American society. The Skirball Cultural Center offers educational programs that explore the literary, visual, and performing arts from around the world and promotes community outreach activities designed to highlight every ethnic and cultural identity in American life. Each year, the Skirball Cultural Center welcomes more than 600,000 visitors from across the nation and around the world.
