DHS S&T today announced it awarded more than $1.5 million to develop an Alerts, Warnings, and Notifications (AWN) Guidance Tool.
DHS S&T has been working with the FEMA IPAWS office and state and local response teams since early 2009 to develop effective alerts, warnings, and notifications programs, as well as identifying gaps in existing IPAWS alerting messaging.
DHS S&T is seeking solutions to the communications challenge of encountering weak radio or cellular coverage while conducting life-saving operations.
FEMA, in coordination with DHS S&T, has released the “Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Program Planning Toolkit.”
DHS S&T, in partnership with DOT, has selected the CIRI, a DHS COE led by the UIUC, to develop a framework and process for testing the interoperability and compatibility of Next Generation 911 (NG911) systems.
St. Louis was selected as the site for the first Smarty City Interoperability Reference Architecture (SCIRA) exercise. The pilot program brought together first responders, city managers and other stakeholders, and through a series of realistic disaster scenarios, demonstrated how smart city technology can transform municipal emergency response.
DHS S&T awarded $750,000 to SecuLore Solutions, an Odenton, Md.-based cybersecurity company, to improve and increase the resiliency of the nation’s emergency communications infrastructure, including Next Generation 911 (NG911) technologies.
FRRG is an all-volunteer working group that includes 150 members of state, local, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical services, emergency management and other disciplines. Its mission is to help S&T maximize first responder safety, effectiveness, and preparedness in the field.
S&T and DRDC CSS conducted an experiment with S&T’s AUDREY, a human-like reasoning system, to determine if AUDREY can perform data fusion, and provide tailored situational awareness information to the paramedic.
