Mission Sustainable Energy focuses on helping the DHS community with smart energy strategies. The combined power of merging energy supply from renewable energy resources with energy efficiency improvements enhances facility operations, lowers energy bills, and in some cases, contributes to a more resilient energy supply.
SEP provides policy, guidance, training, technical support, and Departmental oversight through coordination with DHS Components and consultation with the public. As a result, energy and resilience, sustainability and environmental compliance, and environmental planning and historic preservation programs are appropriately integrated throughout activities, operations, and programs of DHS and its stakeholders.
Under the Secure Freight Initiative, containers from identified ports are scanned for radiation and information risk factors before being allowed to depart for the United States. In the event of a detection alarm, both homeland security personnel and host country officials will simultaneously receive an alert.
